Plan for about 7 days in Istanbul for rhinoplasty. Surgery happens on day 1–2, the nasal splint comes off around day 7, and you are then cleared to fly home. Some surgeons approve 5–6 days for simple cases; revision cases occasionally need a day or two more. Here is exactly how that week unfolds.
Your Rhinoplasty Week in Istanbul, Day by Day
Day 0 — Arrival
Airport pickup and hotel check-in. If you arrive early enough, your in-person consultation and pre-operative tests (blood work, ECG, anesthesia review) happen today. Eat light, sleep well — no alcohol.
Day 1 — Surgery day
Final examination in the morning, then the operation — 2–3 hours under general anesthesia in a full-service hospital. You wake with a small external splint and soft silicone supports inside the nose (modern practice; the painful packing of decades past is gone). You stay overnight under observation.
Day 2 — Discharge
Morning check by your surgeon, care instructions, medication — and back to your hotel. Expect congestion and mild pressure rather than pain. Sleep with your head elevated on 2–3 pillows.
Days 3–6 — Quiet recovery (and gentle tourism)
Bruising around the eyes — if any — peaks around day 2–3 and fades daily. Short, slow walks are encouraged from day 3; strolling a calm neighbourhood or a seaside promenade is fine. Avoid: bending over, lifting, saunas/hamams, direct sun on the face, and glasses resting on the nose. There is usually a brief follow-up visit mid-week.
Day 7 — Splint off & flight clearance
The big day: external splint and any sutures are removed, the nose is checked and photographed, and you receive your long-term care plan. Most patients fly home from this point. Your nose will still be swollen — that’s normal and expected; the shape refines over the coming months.
Can I Come for Less Than 7 Days?
Sometimes — but it’s a compromise. A 5–6 day trip can work for straightforward primary cases if your surgeon approves early splint removal. What we don’t recommend: flying out before the splint is off. If a small issue needs attention (a loosening splint, unexpected swelling), you want to be a taxi ride from your surgeon — not in another country.
Flying Home After Rhinoplasty
- When: after splint removal, typically day 7 — cabin pressure is not a problem at this stage.
- Comfort: congestion may feel stronger in flight; saline spray helps. Choose an aisle seat, drink water, skip alcohol.
- Luggage: don’t lift heavy bags overhead — ask for help or check everything in.
What About Work and Life Back Home?
Most patients return to desk work within a few days of landing — about 10–14 days after surgery in total. Visible bruising is usually gone by then; residual swelling reads as “a bit puffy”, not “had surgery”. Exercise restarts gradually: walking immediately, light training from week 3–4, contact sports and heavy lifting from week 6+ with your surgeon’s approval.
How Follow-Up Works Once You’re Home
Distance doesn’t end care. A structured remote follow-up means scheduled photo check-ins at set milestones (1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months), direct WhatsApp access for questions, and honest guidance if anything needs attention. This is a standard part of the package — confirm it before booking with any clinic.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I travel alone?
Yes — many international patients do. You’ll be accompanied for surgery and transfers. If you can bring a companion, the first two nights are when they help most.
Which season is best?
Any season works. Summer requires stricter sun protection for the healing nose; winter colds are a minor nuisance. Choose by flight prices and your calendar.
Is 7 days enough for revision rhinoplasty too?
Usually yes — revision cases follow the same weekly rhythm, though your surgeon may prefer day 8–9 splint removal for complex reconstructions. Plan flexibility into your return ticket.
