RHINOPLASTY GUIDE

Rhinoplasty at What Age? From Teens to 60+

✔  QUICK ANSWER

The minimum: nasal growth must be complete — roughly age 16–17 for girls and 17–18 for boys. The maximum: there is none — overall health matters far more than the calendar. Rhinoplasty is routinely and safely performed from the late teens through the 60s and beyond, with the plan adapted to what skin and cartilage are like at each age.

Teens: Why Waiting Matters

Operating before the nose finishes growing risks distorting later development — and results that change as growth continues. Exceptions exist for significant trauma or severe breathing obstruction, decided case by case. Emotional readiness matters too: the motivation should be the teen’s own, stable over time, with realistic expectations.

20s–30s: The Classic Window

Most rhinoplasty patients sit here — tissues are elastic, skin redrapes readily, healing is brisk. It is also when combined breathing + aesthetic surgery pays the longest dividends.

40s–50s: Excellent Candidates, Slightly Different Planning

Skin is somewhat less elastic and healing a touch slower — the surgical plan compensates with more conservative reduction and stronger structural support. Results remain excellent; many patients combine rhinoplasty with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) at this stage.

60+: Health, Not Age, Decides

With good general health and clear motivation — often a functional problem plus a long-postponed wish — rhinoplasty remains safe and rewarding. Pre-operative assessment simply gets more thorough: heart, blood pressure, medications.

What Matters More Than Age — At Every Age

  • Complete facial growth (the only hard rule, for the young)
  • Good general health and non-smoking (or willingness to pause)
  • Realistic expectations — refinement, not a different person
  • Your own motivation, not someone else’s

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a 15-year-old have rhinoplasty?

Usually not for purely aesthetic reasons — growth is rarely complete. Severe trauma or major breathing obstruction can justify earlier surgery after careful evaluation.

Is there an age where results look “worse”?

No cliff exists — but expectations calibrate: mature skin redrapes more slowly, so final refinement takes longer and planning is more conservative. Done properly, results look natural at every age.
